Behind The Scenes of Midnight Hour

This previous summer The Lionyls asked me to join them to capture some behind the scenes magic of their latest music video venture.  Most people don’t understand all the behind the scenes work that goes into making such a production happen. I am going to be honest - I didn’t really either. Mock Trial Productions did an outstanding job on collaborating with the Lionyls to make their vision come to light. Watching the videographers and the artists bounce ideas on each other, changing things on the spot to make it happen was a thrilling experience.

Throughout the day we battled with moving trucks in the background, adapting to spontainous weather changes and time crunches. No challenge was enough to crush the Lionyls spirit. They maintained high energy, great dancing skills and the goal to make their vision happen - not without the help of some coffee of course.

Below are my favourite images from the day followed by the outstanding video for Midnight Hour.

Christine Jakel Music EP

Christine Jakel is a singer songwriter based in Ottawa. She completed her bachelors degree in classical voice at The University Of Ottawa and proceeded to embark into the world of songwriting.

When Christine first contacted me about shooting her EP cover, I jumped at the opportunity. I first saw Christine perform at Bar Robo alongside Jad Hammoud and Charlotte Esme Frank. I was blown away by her technical skills and ability to bring a room to pure silence. Her music speaks from the heart, telling personal stories with pure melodies.

Robin Richardson-Dupuis brought Christine’s vision to light by incorporating creative text and small refined details.

Congratulations on the beginning of your musical journey Christine!

WE DAY 2017

The first time I heard of We Day was back in 2009. Craig Kielburger came to my high school and spoke about how he began his fight against child labour. These days Craig and his brother Mark are empowering youth all over Canada to make a change. The goal of We Day is to make the world a better place by embracing volunteerism, spreading positivity and standing up for what you believe in.

This year’s first outdoor We Day took place in Ottawa featuring many memorable speakers such as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, singer Nelly Furtado, actor Jacob Tremblay, and a surprise visit from activist and musician Gord Downie joined by the brave sisters of Chanie Wenjack.

I had the honour of covering the event for Ottawa Life Magazine alongside photographer Renée Boucher Doiron and writer Andre Gagne. Below are my favourite photographs of the day. To read the full article on Ottawa Life Magazine click HERE.

Canada Day 2017

This year I had the pleasure of photographing the biggest Canada Day yet in Ottawa for Ottawa Life Magazine. Special guests such as Bono and The Edge, Shania Twain, and Walk off The Earth took the  morning stage to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

I also took to the streets find people dressed in all sorts of Canadian gear from a human sized Tim Hortons Cup, to a Justin Trudeau unicorn shirt, Canada’s Capital had no lack of spirit.

Even though the evening show started off with some aggressive rainfall, the crowd stayed put to watch Alessia Cara, Dean Brody, Serena Ryder, Lisa Leblanc, Gordon Lightfoot and an incredible performance by Cirque Du Soleil.

Here are my favourite captures from the day - Happy Birthday Canada!

Runway For Hope 2017

Runway for Hope is an Ottawa based event that focuses on highlighting local designers, hair stylists and models while raising funds for CHEO. We all know someone that has been effected positively by CHEO. Either it directly has impacted your life, or indirectly through a friend, family or loved one. Ottawa is very fourtunate to be home to this fantastic paediatric hospital.

Last weekend I had the privilege of attending this March’s runway show to snap some photos of the whole process, from backstage to the main show. I am a big believer in supporting local talent. Ottawa has a blooming fashion industry, and events like this help to put a spotlight where it is greatly deserved.

Congrats to all the models, hair stylists, designers, volunteers, and organizers on the marvellous show. All designer links are under the photos - please check them all out!

Capital Catwalk 2017

This previous weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Capital Catwalk, a chairty runway show hosted by Her Campus. The lineup of designers didn’t fail to impress. From the street style of Zargara, to elegant gowns from Zarucci, the show highlighted the best in Ottawa designers.

This year’s charity was the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.  They are strong advocates to increase cancer surivival in Eastern Ontario. More info on the Foundation can be found here.
